Who is the Best First Baseman in the NL for 2012?

So with Albert and Prince leaving the National League for the ever so sweet American League money, the National League is now wide open for a new top first baseman to step in.  The first guy that comes to mind has got to be Joey Votto in Cincy, he is a former MVP, an All Star and a fan favorite.  Down in Atlanta Freddie Freeman turned a lot of heads in 2011, if he can avoid the "sophomore slump," he has to be one of the NL favorites.  Then you have the young guns who briefly saw some MLB action in 2011, can Paul Goldschmidt emerge in the desert?  Yonder Alonso was shipped to San Diego and will be the opening day starter, now that he is out of the Joey Votto shadow will he be able to prove himself?  In Chicago Anthony Rizzo should be the opening day starter and finally get the chance to prove himself after bouncing around from a few teams.  First base has always been one of the most productive positions on the field, who do you think will breakout in the National League for  2012?

  1. As a Cubs fan I would love to see Rizzo but it's not going to happen. They love LaHair at first gas. Votto is the easy favorite but if you want to look really smart you'd pick Michael Morse from Washington. Hit 31 home runs last year in only 142 games. A journeyman who only hit 71 career home runs in the minor league, watch out for this guy as a late bloomer who has finally put it all together. Add the protection he could get in the lineup with a decent year from Jason Werth and Bryce Harper??? He's my pick!

    1. Morse is a beast but they still have Adam Laroche out there too so we might see a lot more of Morse in LF like last year when he got like 50 some starts out there.
